Update 6 just landed in Hytale’s pre-release, and it’s a solid one. The team at Hypixel Studios clearly had a busy few weeks — there’s something here for builders, modders, and regular players alike. Here’s what you actually need to know.
Block Palette Presets — Finally
The biggest addition for builders: you can now save and reload block palettes as presets. A new Palette Editor lets you create, name, and restore your palettes with a color picker and a block eyedropper. No more rebuilding the same palette from scratch every session. It’s one of those features that sounds small until you realize how much time it saves — especially if you’re juggling multiple builds with different color themes.
A Few Things That Just Make Sense
Grass no longer spreads underwater — and any grass already placed underwater will slowly revert to dirt over time. The image and OBJ import tools now pick block colors more accurately using texture data instead of particle colors. The disconnect screen finally shows the actual error message instead of a vague generic one, and singleplayer worlds with missing directories now tell you clearly what went wrong. Small things, but they add up to a smoother experience overall.
Sounds, Sounds, Sounds
Leaves, brambles, cloth blocks, trash piles and braziers all got new break and walk sounds. Braziers even have different soundsets depending on their material type, and unlit ones no longer trigger the torch flare sound when broken. It’s the kind of thing you don’t notice until it’s there — then the world feels a lot more alive.
Bug Fixes Worth Mentioning
Sprint is now properly preserved when crouch-sliding. Rolling on landing actually reduces fall damage like it should. Modified clients can no longer interact with NPCs or mount entities from unrealistic distances — a meaningful anti-cheat fix for multiplayer. The Paste Tool no longer resets its offset after pasting, which was quietly driving builders crazy. Block filters also now correctly handle empty blocks, and the Ruler Tool got a couple of small but annoying quirks ironed out.
A hotfix followed the very next day (May 29), patching a deadlock when inviting friends to singleplayer worlds, a memory leak on world exit, and a few UI issues including the Friends list scroll getting stuck.
For Modders
The network protocol bumped from hytale/2 to hytale/3 — old clients and servers won’t connect anymore. A new Universe#transferPlayerAsync() API centralises player transfers, and several chunk access methods have been deprecated in favour of component-based access. Check the official notes carefully if you’re running plugins.
All in all, Update 6 is a clean, focused patch that moves things forward without making a lot of noise. The palette presets alone make it worth the update.
