Hytale is a technically demanding game. To help you optimize your experience, we break down the specifics of its engine and the key points to consider in your PC configuration.
Processor
Hytale is primarily a CPU-bound game . This is due to the complexity of its world simulation (procedural generation, NPC AI, game logic).
- In Multiplayer: The heaviest workload (AI, world generation) is handled by the server . Your PC focuses primarily on rendering (the client).
- In Solo mode: The situation becomes more complicated, as your PC must simultaneously manage the client (graphics) AND the local server (world logic).
Note: If you need to upgrade your PC on a limited budget, prioritize a processor (CPU) with a good clock speed and a high number of cores, as well as RAM , rather than an overly expensive graphics card.
Hardware configurations
The studio’s official requirements emphasize the importance of CPU and RAM for each performance level:
| Objective | Processor (CPU) | Graphics Card (GPU) | RAM | Specific Note |
| Minimum (1080p @ 30 FPS, “Low” Graphics) | Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 | NVIDIA GTX 960, AMD Radeon 400 series or Intel Arc | 8 GB (Multi) / 12 GB (Solo) | Limited viewing distance. |
| Recommended (1080p @ 60 FPS, “High” Graphics) | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | NVIDIA GTX 1060, AMD Radeon RX 580 or equivalent | 16 GB | SSD recommended. |
| Ultra (Content Creators / Streamers 1440p) | Intel Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 9 3800X | RTX 3000 Series or RX 7000 Series | 32 GB | Frametime stability is crucial. |
View Distance
The most impactful performance parameter is the View distance ( chop loading distance ).
It is essential to remember the simple mathematical rule established by the developers:
If you double the viewing distance, you quadruple the workload for your PC.
- 192 Blocks: The recommended distance for small configurations.
- 384 Blocks: The ideal distance to fully enjoy the world of Orbis as it was designed.
Pushing this slider too far can even saturate your graphics card’s video memory (VRAM) , especially because of the massive “texture atlases” generated by the game.
Storage and network
Hytale is a dynamic, expanding world, which has a significant impact on storage:
- Space Required: The studio recommends 20 GB of free space on an SSD , even though the basic installation is only 8 GB.
- The SSD era: Using a traditional hard disk drive (HDD) is strongly discouraged . The constant loading of new areas ( chunks ) and the rapid growth of the backup file will cause slowdowns (stuttering) if you don’t use an SSD.
- Internet connection: A standard ADSL connection (2 to 8 Mbit/s) is sufficient for multiplayer gaming, as the game primarily needs to download data from the world.
Future compatibility
Although Hytale is planned for a Windows launch, the studio has given a preview of other platforms:
- Mac & Linux: Support will arrive, but the team is still working on optimization, especially for Apple M1/M2 chips.
- Steam Deck: The console is powerful on paper, but the user interface (UI) for small screens and controller support are not yet validated for launch.
