Currently, English is the default language, but thanks to the incredible modding community, we can enjoy Hytale entirely in French: menus, interface, and system texts are translated.

This detailed guide will explain how to install the French language pack, whether you prefer a manual installation or via the CurseForge app. It’s simpler than it looks!

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have these items at hand:

Method 1: Manual installation (recommended)

This method gives you total control and is often the fastest for regulars.

Step 1: Download the language pack

1. Go to the “French Translation” CurseForge page.
2. Click the Download button to get the pack’s ZIP archive.

Step 2: Locate the Hytale folder

There are two simple ways to find the main Hytale directory:

Alternative via the Hytale launcher:

1. Open the Hytale launcher.
2. Click the Settings icon (the gear in the top left).
3. Click Open directory.

Step 3: Extract and copy files

1. Open the ZIP archive you downloaded.
2. Inside, locate the folder named install.
3. Copy this install folder.
4. Paste it directly into the Hytale directory you found in the previous step (e.g., %appdata%\Hytale).
5. If a window asks you to confirm overwriting existing files, confirm without hesitation. This is essential for the translation to take effect.

⚠️ Important: Overwriting files is paramount for the translation to work correctly.

Step 4: Activate the French language in-game

1. Launch Hytale.
2. Go to the game Settings.
3. Click Language.
4. Select Français (FR). And there you go! Your game is now in French.

Method 2: Installation via the CurseForge app

If you prefer to centralize your mod management, the CurseForge app is a good option, although a manual step is still required for the language pack.

Step 1: Install CurseForge

1. Download and install the CurseForge application from their official site.
2. Launch CurseForge. Hytale should be automatically detected if your game is installed in the default location. If not, add it manually via settings.

Step 2: Install the “French Translation” mod

1. In the CurseForge app, select Hytale in your game library.
2. Click Browse Mods.
3. Search for “French Translation” in the search bar.
4. Click the Install button for the corresponding mod.

Step 3: Copy language files manually

Even with CurseForge, a small manual manipulation is required for the language pack:

1. In CurseForge, click the three small dots (⋮) at the top right of the “French Translation” mod thumbnail.
2. Select Open Mod Folder.
   The path will be: %appdata%\Hytale\UserData\Mods\<ModFolderName>.
3. Open the “French Translation” mod folder.
4. Copy the install folder found inside.
5. Paste it into the Hytale root directory (usually %appdata%\Hytale).
6. Confirm overwriting existing files if prompted.

Step 4: Activate the French language in-game

1. Launch Hytale.
2. Access Settings → Language.
3. Choose Français (FR).
