As the anticipation surrounding Hytale continues to build hype, one question keeps coming up in the community: “Will I be able to play it on my console? “
While Hypixel Studios remains discreet about an official list of consoles (PS5, Xbox, Switch 2?), one category of players may well have found the loophole to play in nomadic mode from day one: owners of hybrid laptops like the Steam Deck , the ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go .
Radio silence on the home console front
This is the big question mark. We know that the major overhaul of the game engine (the switch from C# to C++) was done specifically to enable cross-platform play . In theory, the game is ready to run everywhere.
However, to date, no console version has been officially dated or confirmed for release. This leaves many players in the dark, fearing they’ll have to remain glued to their desk chairs to explore Orbis.
The wild card: The Steam Deck and its cousins
This is where the line between “console” and “PC” becomes blurred, much to our delight. If Hytale is released on PC (which is the absolute minimum), then it will technically be released on these hybrid machines.
Here’s why the experience might be possible, even without an official “port”:
- PC architecture: Whether running Windows (ROG Alliance) or SteamOS (Steam Deck), these machines are first and foremost computers. If the Hytale launcher is available on PC, there’s a very good chance it can be installed on these devices.
- Desktop Mode: This is the key feature. On the Steam Deck, for example, simply switch to “Desktop Mode” to browse as you would on a regular computer, download the game client, and add it to your library.
- Controller support: Since the new engine is designed for cross-play, it is very likely that Hytale will be able to support controllers from launch.

A “Switch-Like” experience without the Switch?
Imagine for a moment: you are on the train or in the depths of your bed, exploring a dungeon or building your dream house, all on a portable machine.
Even if the game is not “verified” or optimized specifically for Steam Deck hardware at launch, the power of these machines is often sufficient to run much more demanding games.
Let’s remain cautious (but optimistic)
Of course, all of this remains possible , not guaranteed. Several factors could complicate matters:
- Compatibility with anti-cheat systems (often temperamental on Linux/SteamOS).
- Optimizing the interface for small screens.
But for those who despair of seeing a “Nintendo Switch” or “PlayStation” logo appear in the next trailers, the hybrid laptop seems to be the most credible alternative for taking Hytale everywhere with you.
Until an official announcement is made, we’ll keep our Steam Decks loaded and ready to go!
